Greed vs Hope, Life vs Economy – UPSC ASPIRANTS

Today, there was an incident in Karol Bagh. We are talking about it, but this is not the first time. We had the Bhopal gas tragedy, the recent Gujarat exhibition fire, the Mukerji Nagar fire at coaching and now, an incident at Raus coaching center in Karol Bagh.

Students are not dumb; they just have hope!

It’s common sense that the basement library is not safe, but students still go and study there for more than 10 hours because they believe the institute will guide them to success. However, the owners are greedy, risking our lives by constructing such basement libraries, coaching centers, factories, and illegal gas agencies near PG hostels. They know the risks but still dare to do it, thinking they will deal with any problems when they arise.

Regarding waterlogging in Delhi, it’s the MCD’s responsibility to clean and check the drainage regularly. We are paying taxes, and the government should invest that money appropriately. Delhi is known for pollution, floods, cold, and heat waves. We created an economy for a happy life, but if our resources are not sufficient to save our lives, where are our resources being invested? We have problems, and we need to solve them. Aliens won’t come to fix our economy; this is our problem. We created it, and we need to solve it by properly utilizing our resources. Yes, India is the world’s most populated country, and managing resources is not easy. We have sensitive issues to deal with, but we need to learn and act.

Did you know that Raus coaching center and other such big institutes can have an annual turnover of more than 500 crores? Yet, they are still greedy and have constructed a library in the basement.

Let me share my experience when I tried to complain about an illegal gas agency near to our pg and library. I dialed the gas agency’s customer service, and they told me to call another number. When I called that number, it didn’t work. Students still stay in our area because they come from poor backgrounds. It’s like if you have money, your life is valued, but in the case of Raus coaching even after paying 1.5 lakhs, they don’t value life. It’s as if those with money can afford organic food and live longer, while others eat harmful chemical food and die sooner. They are deciding our lives based on the money we invest. Sometimes, even people who invest heavily have to suffer due to greed. Many incidents have already happened in India, yet we are not learning any lessons from our past. This is a tragedy. If something happens in the future, we will discuss it then.

The government should not compromise when it comes to student life. Students are going to educate and empower others and run modern India. Stop the ego clash between state and central governments, invest money, check regularly, and give students hope that India is safe for them.

If we don’t take strict actions like imposing a 1 crore fine, a 10-year jail term, and implementing a proper common dial number for registering complaints about such illegal institutes and their irregularities, we will see more incidents in the future like school and college tragedies, PG hostel fires, and issues with food stalls and restaurants. These people justify their actions by claiming they are providing employment and creating new startups, but they are experimenting with our lives.

History repeats itself if we don’t learn from it.

Why it’s always have been the students we as a nation experiment with. By playing with their future.Leaking papers, corruption in jobs, politics is everywhere. Everything is political and personal is public. We as a youth nation should take a stand against it. Otherwise this is happen again and again and no one gonna bother about it, forget it after sometime.

Sir, I want to bring a major point to your notice. Jaipur’ Gopalpura and Ridhhi Siddhi areas are not built to accommodate thousands of students. Still, these areas absorbed them. Do you know how?
Students with 2 beds are living in kitchens, in the store room, and halls are partitioned to make 4 rooms with aluminum walls. 20 people share 2 bathrooms.
Discussion about food quality is so much normalized as “PG me to esa hi milega Bhai”. And casteist sexist uncles became businessmen and charged any number they wanted.
Every parent who is sitting hundreds and thousands of kilometers away wants their child to stay safe and have good food. They earn for their children. They don’t know the Delhi Jaipur coaching area.
Whatever house owner, PG owner demands we with folded hands give them. Still, they cheat us in case of food, electricity, and security money. Still, their stomach is not filling.
But along with coaching, these local area residents became wolves and bats.

Where is the planning to accommodate, where is the infrastructure? If coaching is opening in any area, that coaching institute must provide at least basic residence facilities or guide them. And the government can check on them.

I had an incident where I joined a new PG, and the very next day I had food poisoning and again after 3 days, I had food poisoning. I requested the PG owner to please refund my remaining money deduct whatever services I have taken, and let me go.
He straightaway denied giving me my money. And said, Do whatever you want, but money will be not given.
I took some stress and I can’t tell this to my home as they will worry. Later I warned him about writing a complaint to the food safety department. Then he agreed to refund me.

I feel that because of this coaching culture, the curriculum and teaching at the +2 level and UG level have been sidelined for the last two decades or so. Even the public examinations at these levels become formal and mechanical only just to get degrees, but not acquire skills at all.

Yes, you highlighted the major issue and what if they don’t crack ? They don’t have skills too, when people will understand the purpose of education? Education is not for job. Education is to cultivate our mind.
